Since 2004 the Ahi awards have recognised the wonderful contribution made by dedicated housing professionals and organisations across Australia and New Zealand.
Award Categories
The 2025 Ahi Awards feature nine categories:
The project or initiative may be applied to more than one category, however please complete a separate nomination form for each entry.
Nominating
Everyone who works in the housing sector, whether in a paid or volunteer role, is eligible for nomination. However, the person submitting the nomination must be a member of Ahi.

Entries must be submitted on the relevant nomination form/s below and emailed to admin@housinginstitute.org no later than Friday, 14th March 2025.
Cost
There is no cost to enter the awards, however the jurisdictional and Australasian award receptions are ticketed events.

For the 2025 Brighter Future Awards the AHI wishes to recognise the very valuable contributions made by our First Nations led organisations who provide unique projects specific to the needs of Indigenous Peoples across Australia and New Zealand. Included within the team awards categories is the opportunity to showcase First Nations led projects for assessment by the judging panel, which will include members with specific expertise in both the New Zealand and Australian perspectives.
Those identified will be put forward for Commendation if they are not the overall winner of the category in any event. It is proposed these Jurisdictional Commendations will also be recognised at the National event with the eligible First Nations led organisations announced as overall winners for New Zealand and Australia.
The individual category nomination forms will include the opportunity to put forward recommendations for the Commendations. First Nations organisations are encouraged to include this within their submissions.
The Excellence in Social Housing award provides an opportunity for an organisation or team/division of an organisation to showcase the outstanding and/or unique way in which it has delivered social housing services.
This award recognises industry professionals with 5+ years of experience who have shown potential to excel as a future leader, Nominees will be deemed to have a future in General Management or C-Suite level positions and one day have a significant impact on the sector.
This award acknowledges a person who is passionate about their role and understands how it fits into the strategic outcomes of their organisation, and the values of social housing. They consistently demonstrate enthusiasm to add value to their role and motivate others within their team and/or organisation by the approach they take to their work.
The Leading Asset Management Award is dedicated to asset management that is consistently rated by tenants and stakeholders as excellent and/or incorporates practices or innovations that result in significantly better maintenance services and asset outcomes.
The winner of this award is a housing professional who has significant achievements working in social housing that goes beyond their team and organisation and is likely to have a long-term impact on the industry as a whole and the housing profession.
The Leading Innovation award recognises new thinking in the housing sector – initiatives or projects that have led to significant change in the nominated organisation or community, with lessons that could be applied more broadly to other housing organisations.
This award is dedicated to a project or initiative that demonstrates leading practice in encouraging, enabling, and supporting tenant and/or community engagement.
This award recognises a residential development that offers an exemplary model to the sector for its outstanding quality and/or innovation and/or originality.
Nominations for this award are open to individuals or a group of residents/tenants who have undertaken a project or initiative to benefit others in their community.
The previous awards were held throughout 2023 culminating at the Gala Dinner held in Brisbane in October 2023.
