Home in Place Executive Manager Housing Pathways & Operations Mid North Coast Tim Larritt said it was fantastic to see how enthusiastically tenants worked together to clean up the streets and garden spaces. Tim said many younger residents really got involved and were offering to help older neighbouring residents with their yard clean ups.
“As well as creating a cleaner and safer environment for all residents, the clean up days were great community building exercise,” Tim said.
“The clean up days have brought ongoing benefits to the community in terms of community pride and cohesion.”
“Thank you to everyone who took part.”
Every tenant who participated went into the draw for some prizes. Danielle was the resident who won the major prize. She and her four children were amazing and enthusiastic participants at the Bushland Estate cleanup.
At the Bushland Estate 80 cubic metres of rubbish was taken away. There were 14, 3 tonne truckloads of materials, mostly metal, that were able to be recycled.
Tim said it was a real community effort. Home in Place’s My Place Property Maintenance as well as staff from Sentinel Community Services worked with tenants and operated the machinery. MidCoast Council‘s weed management team dropped by to take care of some invasive species within the complexes.
Staff from other organisations lent a hand and were there to provide outreach support and services to tenants.
On social media, one tenant said “Can I just say how proud I am of our community, so many people out helping each other without judgement. It’s been amazing to witness.”
Another replied “I second that! Great to see. The younger ones did the community proud, good stuff.”
Other community building and tenant engagement initiatives at Bushland Estate include the monthly Breakfast Club. Home in Place is a partner in the initiative established by Catholic Care Social Services Hunter Manning and NSW Police, Manning- Great Lakes Police District.
